North Clay school board members Wednesday were updated on a return to in-person instruction.

North Clay faculty, staff and administration have been working together on remote learning that began last week and is scheduled to continue until November 30. Superintendent Travis Wyatt said packet and meal distribution has been a success due to the help from all staff members. Wyatt also thanked all North Clay parents and students for all they are doing during the remote learning phase.

Wyatt shared that the Illinois Secretary of State's office awarded North Clay a Back to Books grant of $4,900 in support of "Encourage Reading for the Hesitant". Alecia Lutz completed the grant application.

The district also held a mock election on November 2, the day before the official election. Wyatt said that with 100% of the vote reported, the results were not close enough to warrant a manual recount.

Wyatt also reported on a run held November 7 by FFA as a fundraiser for a seizure response dog for Macy Worthey. The event not only met, but exceeded the goal of $20,000.

In action items, the North Clay board approved the school district report cards, discussed a tentative tax levy for the coming fiscal year, adopted certain board policy updates and approved a first reading of other policies, and discussed IHSA and IDPH guidelines for winter sports.

North Clay board members also approved a Family and Medical Leave Act leave for Tammy Yingst.
