One person was killed Monday morning in a crash in Fayette County.
The person killed, 47-year-old Chad Kinstler of Sparta, was a passenger in a commercial vehicle that collided with a pickup truck at 10:45am.
State police say the commercial vehicle, a truck, was traveling south on Illinois Route 185, about a half-mile north of 500 East. The pickup truck was headed north. The driver of the commercial vehicle, 26-year-old Evan Dotson of Sparta, fell asleep and ran off the highway to the right. Dotson woke up and overcorrected, crossing the centerline and striking a trailer being pulled by the pickup truck. The commercial truck then left the highway to the left, entered a ditch, and struck a tree.
Kinstler was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash.
Dotson was transported to an area hospital with what were termed non life-threatening injuries. The driver of the pickup truck, 43-year-old Jesse Rosenberger of Vandalia, was not injured.
Dotson was cited for improper lane usage, driving while fatigued, no valid driver's license, failure to wear a seatbelt and operating an uninsured motor vehicle.
State police say the roadway was closed for approximately five hours during the crash investigation.
