The Illinois Department of Public Health reported 12,438 cases, another record day for new cases of COVID-19 on Saturday. The total was over 2,000 more cases than Friday which had set the previous record.

The statewide positivity rate for the past seven days is now at 10.3-percent.

Meanwhile Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker has tested negative for the COVID-19 virus after learning he may have been exposed during a meeting on Monday to someone who tested positive for the coronavirus.

Pritzker had self-isolated Friday while awaiting test results.

The governor’s office said Saturday that members of Pritzker’s staff who attended the meeting also tested negative for the virus.
