Fatal Crash 2020

One person was killed and another person was injured in a crash involving a truck and pickup truck on the Dieterich-Montrose Blacktop Thursday.

Effingham County Coroner Kim Rhodes reports the pickup truck driven by 65-year-old Michael Schulz of Davenport, Florida, crossed the centerline and struck the truck driven by 62-year-old Weidner Jay Prather of Effingham.

Rhodes pronounced Schulz dead at the scene of the crash. Prather was treated at HSHS St. Anthony's Memorial Hospital in Effingham, then released.

An autopsy is set for 10:30 this morning to officially determine the cause of Schulz's death. The Effingham County Coroner's Office and the Illinois State Police are continuing their investigation of the crash, pending the results of the autopsy, toxicology reports and the State Police reconstruction report.

The crash happened about two miles north of Dieterich at 1:54pm. The roadway was completely closed until about 7:30pm when one lane was opened. Things are back to normal today.

In addition to the Coroner's Office and ISP, agencies assisting were the Dieterich Fire Department and Abbott EMS.
