Area Health Departments Investigating COVID Outbreaks at Long Term Care Facilities

The Clay County and Fayette County health departments are investigating COVID-19 outbreaks at long-term care facilities.

The Clay County Health Department is reporting two new positive cases in the general public. Health Department officials say the outbreak at the long-term care facility in Clay County is still under investigation.

Meanwhile, Fayette County Health Department reported eight new positive cases of COVID-19 on Wednesday, as well as a new COVID-related death. The Health Department said the new death is not linked to the outbreak in a congregate care facility in Fayette County.

24 new COVID-19 cases were reported Wednesday in Coles County, and seven new cases were reported in Shelby County. Jasper County Health Department reported one new positive case Wednesday. Cumberland County Health Department reported seven new positive cases in the period from Saturday through Tuesday.
