Olney Murder Suspect Has Local Ties

The suspect in a murder in Olney has local ties.

Effingham City Police Deputy Chief Kurt Davis Wednesday said Rick Meador is a graduate of an area high school and that his family formerly lived in Effingham.

The 18-year-old Meador is being sought in connection with the shooting death of 19-year-old Kyle Johnson of Olney in Olney over the weekend. An arrest warrant for Meador on a charge of first degree murder was issued Tuesday.

Illinois State Police DCI Zone 8 officials have cautioned the public to not approach Meador as he should be considered armed and dangerous and to contact Travis Rinehart with any information at 217-342-7881 or at Travis.Rinehart@illinois.gov.
