A South Central Middle School student has tested positive for COVID-19.

South Central Superintendent Kerry Herdes says the student was in school Monday, but not Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday. The school district is working with Marion County Health Department on contact tracing.

The investigation found 14 students and no staff members who were within six feet of the student for a continuous 15 minutes. Those students were sent home to quarantine for 14 days at the direction of the health department. The 14 students will be on remote learning during the quarantine.

Classes are being held today at the school. Herdes said it's a reminder that all need to continue to practice social distancing and to continue wearing masks.
