South Central school board members this week heard a review from Superintendent Kerry Herdes on the proposed fiscal year budget.

Herdes reported that the budget totals more than $6.6 million, with a deficit of $38,000. He said, "This is a pretty good start for us over many years in the past with having a much larger deficit to overcome. We have made conscious efforts throughout the District to help balance the budget, and when you combine that with the State payment that have been mostly on time the past year, it helps the budget stay on track."

Board members formally approved their E-Learning Plan, which is what was used last spring. District administrators summarized their reopening plans and thanked their staff for work make the plans successful. Herdes said, "We have great plans."

Herdes also reported that the District was up slightly at 654 students, over the 650 students from last year.

In personnel moves, the South Central board hired Todd Meyer as a bus driver, Lisa Paganelli as a bus aide, moved Ashton Hewkin from bus aide to bus driver, and Aimee Moore as a Literature teacher at the middle school.

Those hired for extra-curricular positions include: Curt Thompson as high school yearbook sponsor and lunchroom supervisor, John Stephenson as high school lunchroom supervisor, Courtney Kman as high school student council sponsor and junior class sponsor, and Andrew Steininger as high school marching band sponsor and high school freshman class sponsor.

Also approved were Mindy Shoemaker, Karrie Sexton and Karen Hanks for resignations, Kim Cousineau for retirement as of October 31, 2021, Nicole Doehring for leave of absence, and Brandon Swartzlander as a high school girls varsity assistant.
