The owners of Effingham Veterinary Clinic have announced plans to expand their Effingham location, located at 408 Keller Drive.

A groundbreaking ceremony was held Thursday afternoon to mark the beginning of the project.

A 4,000 square foot expansion will house an additional exam room, another treatment room, expanded ICU rooms for small animals, and a cat-only waiting area.

The clinic is owned by Drs. Dale Spindler, James Grotz and S. Chad Ely. Dr. Ely said, "We are very grateful for this community and their support. The expansion will allow us to deliver the same high standard of care while also accommodating our tremendous growth and maintaining an excellent client and patient experience."

Due to growth over the last several years, the Clinic owners knew they needed to hire additional staff and expand the treatment and exam areas. Recently, the clinic hired Dr. Katie Shreve and welcomed back Dr. Jessie McKinney Schultz to the team. Also recognized was the need for additional housing facilities for in-patient and critical care animals. The facility will now have the capacity to offer grooming services.

As for large animal services, the addition will allow for expanded overnight stabling for hospitalization. It will also allow for extended space for equine surgery. Additional parking will also be a part of the project.

Effingham Veterinary Clinic was founded in 1973 by Dr. Steve Sauers. Dr. Spindler became his partner in 1988. Dr. Gratz and Dr. Ely joined as partners following Dr. Sauers' retirement. In addition to Drs. Schultz and Shreve, associate veterinarians are Drs. Mara Fehrenbacher, Lindsay Goeckner and Tanner Kirby. With the purchase of Newton Veterinary Clinic in 2012, the same level of care has been extended to Jasper County.

Dr. Spindler shared, "The doctors and staff are very excited about the addition and remodel and how it will enable us to better meet the needs of our clients. We feel it is a blessing to serve and be a part of this community."
