Both drivers were injured when their vehicles collided Wednesday afternoon near Altamont.

The crash happened at 5:05pm on US Route 40 at 200th Street, just west of Altamont.

The eastbound lane of Route 40 was stopped, bumper to bumper, due to traffic being routed off I-70 due to a semi on fire. A vehicle driven by 56-year-old Cheryl Habing of Effingham was traveling north on 200th Street and attempted to cross the highway between two stopped semis. Habing's vehicle struck a westbound vehicle on Route 40 driven by 59-year-old Tammy Woolsey of Vandalia with both vehicles coming to rest on the north side of the highway.

Habing was taken to HSHS St. Anthony's Memorial Hospital in Effingham for treatment, while Woolsey was taken to Fayette County Hospital in Vandalia.

Habing was cited for failure to yield at a stop intersection.
