St. Rep. Darren Bailey is asking that Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker be found in contempt for issuing Executive Orders related to COVID-19.

Bailey's attorney, Thomas DeVore of Greenville, filed a motion seeking the contempt citation Wednesday morning in Clay County Circuit Court.

The filing accuses Pritzker of violating Judge Michael McHaney's ruling July 2 that the governor overstepped his authority in issuing a series of Executive Orders once his initial Order expired after 30 days on April 8.

The governor issued other COVID-related orders after the judge's decision, and that's why Bailey is seeking the contempt citation.

The petition asks Pritzker to rescind the new orders, or that he be held in Clay County Jail until he does.

Bailey asked that the General Assembly meet in special session to address public health issues surrounding COVID-19.
