Effingham Mayor Mike Schutzbach Thursday announced that the City of Effingham will return to Zoom meetings due to the increase in COVID-19 cases in Effingham County.

Schutzbach said, "With the most recent news of more positive COVID test results and/or quarantine of our citizens, additional safeguards have been implemented at City Hall to ensure the health and safety of our citizens and staff.

"The City feels it is vital to our community to lead by example and do what we can to stop the spread of this virus. Effective immediately, all public meetings will be conducted electronically by Zoom and may be viewed by visiting the City's website at Effinghamil.com. A member of the City staff will be physically present at the Council meetings as required; however, all City Council members and all other City officials and staff will participate via Zoom.

"The City will continue its practice to allow speaker cards, and individuals will be allowed to speak at the meetings. If you have a specific topic of concern, we respectfully ask that you contact City Clerk Abbey Nosbisch at 217 342 5000 x 5364 in advance to make appropriate accommodations.

"Thank you for your continued cooperation during this time and please join us to do what you can to practice social distancing and wear protective wear in hopes of effectively fighting this healthcare crisis.

"It is the City's intention to continue to safely serve and meet our citizens' needs during regular office hours."
