Dieterich village board members heard from plenty of their citizens at their recent meeting. The topic? Flooding of properties following the epic rainfall earlier this month.

Reports of up to five to six inches of rain in a short amount of time caused the village creek to back up, which led to a lot of flooding.

Dieterich Village Clerk Brittny Gipson said work has been underway for the last several years to make things better, but getting government approval sometimes takes a lot of time. The plan is to modify the creek to remove the "oxbow", which slows down the flow and causes the backup that leads to the flooding.

The Board did move ahead with a project in the downtown area to move power lines from overhead to underground. To move the project ahead, the Board approved revised plats of three parcels of land on the east side of Pine Street from Section to Church Streets. It's part of Dieterich's project to beautify the downtown area.

Board members also approved a better than $80,000 payment to Kieffer Brothers Construction for water and sewer infrastructure construction in Dieterich Industrial Park East, and approved a state-mandated harassment policy. The Board also purchased an easement to allow installation of a new sewer force main in the Industrial Park East.
