A large quantity of methamphetamine has been seized in Effingham as the result of an operation by numerous law enforcement agencies.

The Effingham County Sheriff's Department, in conjunction with the US Department of Homeland Security and the East Central Illinois Drug Task Force, obtained a search warrant for 203 W. Mt. Vernon Avenue in Effingham. The search warrant was executed with the assistance of the US Marshal's Service, the Effingham City Police Department, and the Southeastern Illinois Drug Task Force.

As a result of the execution of the search warrant, approximately 670 grams of methamphetamine was seized. The occupant of the residence, 54-year-old Darrin D. Herron, was taken into custody and charged with possession of a controlled substance. Harron is being held in Effingham County Jail. Formal charges are expected to be filed on Thursday.

The case is somewhat unique in that several federal, state and local agencies were involved in the investigation leading to the execution of the search warrant. Effingham County Sheriff Dave Mahon said, "The Effingham County Sheriff's Office is very willing to work with our federal, state and local city agencies to help keep drugs off our streets. Approximately a pound and a half of Meth is not in our county today because of this collaboration. We will always welcome our federal and state partners into our county to help us fight crime and keep our community safe."
