We had a story today that the Effingham County Clerk's office will be mailing out vote-by-mail applications this Friday. Now comes word that another organization is also mailing out the applications.

Effingham County Clerk Kerry Hirtzel, the chief election authority for the county, said the mailing from the outside organization is "causing a lot of confusion" and said his office is receiving numerous calls regarding the issue.

The county clerk's office will be mailing applications for ballot-by-mail to each registered voter who voted in one of the last three elections this Friday, July 31. The county clerk's office is required by state law to send applications for only this November's election.

Hirtzel encourages voters to use the application they will receive from his office.

A reminder, too, that you don't HAVE to vote by mail; polling places will still be open on Election Day on November 3, and you can Early Vote beginning Thursday, September 24, at the county clerk's office.
