Altamont city council members Monday agreed to proceed with seeking financing through USDA Rural Development for a citywide water main replacement project.

The Council is using a figure of $10 million for the project. Once it is known what funding can be obtained from Rural Development, the Council can work out financing the balance of the project cost.

The Council discussed hiring an engineering firm for the project, but couldn't reach a decision so tabled the matter.

Also Monday, the Council approved the sale of Oak View Mobile Home Park south of Altamont Grade School to James Kim; and approved the fiscal year appropriations ordinance totaling $7,284,459. A sexual harassment policy required by the State was approved; and new signage was approved. Stop signs will be placed at Edwards and Lincoln Streets to make for a four-way stop intersection by Altamont Lutheran Interparish School. No parking signs will be placed along Do-It Drive on both sides of the street.

Council members approved a sideyard setback variance at 5 N. St. Clair, allowing for the rebuilding of a garage that burned. Also, a City-owned lot at 8th and Elm is being put up for sale for development as a residential property.
