The Teutopolis Village Board Monday voted to proceed with replacement of their village hall.

After years of discussion and putting away funds for the project, the Board voted to award the bid for the work to Grunloh Builders for a base bid of $808,585.12. Village Clerk Sharon Will said the hope is to complete the project in March or April. That will be just as Will is departing her post due to retirement after 36 years as clerk.

The current Village Hall was built in 1888. The downstairs portion originally served as the village fire house, while the upstairs was used as a school room and rented out for presentation of "moving picture shows."

The current building will be taken down to make way for the new structure. Offices will be relocated to the incubator building, generally used for new and startup businesses.

Also Monday, the Teutopolis board purchased a 2019 squad car from Northside Ford in Effingham through the State purchasing plan.
