A wide-ranging public corruption investigation surrounding ComEd has the utility willing to pay $200 million to the feds to settle the matter in a deferred prosecution case.

Along with the fine comes the realization that Public Official A in the investigation is Speaker of the House Mike Madigan.

The US Attorneys Office says between 2011-2019: "ComEd arranged for various associates of (Madigan) including (Madigan's) political allies and individuals who performed political work for him to obtain jobs, vendor subcontracts, and monetary payments.." even where they performed little or no work.

Friday, Democrat Governor JB Pritzker says Madigan might need to step down.

As part of the deferred prosecution case it appears that ComEd has an “obligation” to continue to cooperate with government investigations.

Three area state representatives...Brad Halbrook of Shelbyville, Chris Miller of Oakland, and Blaine Wilhour of Beecher City...issued a statement that said, in part, "Speaker Madigan has ruled Illinois long enough. First elected to the House in 1971, Madigan has served as Speaker of the House for all but two years since 1983. It is time for our state to finally rid itself of the corruption and abuse of power that has been the hallmark of Madigan's tenure as Speaker of the House."

The statement added, "It is time for Madigan to take the high road for once in his political career. It is time for him to resign his House seat. Illinois will always be mired in corruption and shady dealings as long as Michael Madigan remains Speaker of the House."
