1,187 New Positive Cases of COVID-19 in Illinois Wednesday

Positive cases of COVID-19 were well up in Illinois on Wednesday, but COVID-19 related deaths were well down.

1,187 positive cases were announced by the Illinois Department of Public Health, but just eight confirmed deaths were reported.

Shelby County Health Department announced Wednesday that two Shelby County residents have tested positive for COVID-19; two females, aged 33 and 29. Both are employees at the Shelbyville Rehabilitation Healthcare Center and are asymptomatic. They were tested as part of a screening program for the virus at the healthcare facility and are currently under isolation.

Two new positive cases were reported in Fayette County, a female in her 50s and an adolescent male. An additional case was reported in Cumberland County, a female in her 40s.

The case counts in area counties: 36 in Effingham County, 23 in Shelby County, 209 in Coles County, 31 in Cumberland County, 47 in Jasper County, eight in Clay County, and 28 in Fayette County.

IDPH said laboratories in the state reported 38,161 specimens. Over the past seven days, the percentage of positive cases of the total cases reported is 3.1%.
