883 Positive COVID-19 Cases Announced in Illinois Monday; Two New Cases in Effingham County

The number of positive COVID-19 cases in Illinois fell back below 1,000 on Monday. However, two new cases were reported Monday in Effingham County.

Effingham County Health Department reported a female in her 40s and a male in his 50s have had no known contact with a COVID case. Both are doing well in isolation.

883 new confirmed cases were reported statewide. Just six COVID-related deaths were reported Monday; four from Cook County, one from DuPage County, and one from Montgomery County. 

Just over 30,000 specimens were reported by Illinois laboratories for the 24-hour period ending at 2pm Monday. The percentage of positive tests the past seven days of the total tests submitted is 3%. 

Shelby County Health Department Monday reported its 21st positive COVID-19 case. A 56-year-old male was tested prior to a scheduled surgery at Decatur Memorial Hospital and is currently in isolation. 

After weeks at just two positive cases, Clay County reported six additional cases over the weekend, three Saturday morning, and three more in the afternoon. The afternoon cases were a male and female in their 40s, and a child. Clay County Health Department reports all six individuals were in contact with COVID positive patients and are at home in isolation.

The county counts in this area are: Shelby--21; Coles--201; Cumberland--30; Jasper--47; Clay--8; Fayette--25; and Effingham--36.
