Emma Kuhns of Mason has been elected Illinois State FFA Treasurer.

The election took place Thursday night as part of the Illinois FFA Convention.

Emma, the daughter of Stan and Shelly Kuhns, is a recent graduate of Altamont Community High School. She spoke with DeLoss Jahnke of RFD Illinois about her election and her plans for the future. One thing discussed was her project throughout her FFA career...

Emma is the second state FFA treasurer from Effingham County in three years, following Taylor Hartke of Teutopolis.

Thursday's election was held online due to COVID-19 concerns. Here's the full roster of state officers:

  • President: Lexi Mueller, Valmeyer FFA
  • Vice president: Molly Schempp, Olympia FFA
  • Reporter: Margaret Vaessen, Amboy FFA
  • Secretary: Jordi Oliver, Vienna FFA
  • Treasurer: Emma Kuhns, Altamont FFA

390 delegates were able to cast ballots in a live election, thanks to careful planning by the 2019-20 state officer team and state FFA staff. By all accounts, the election — and convention — went off without a hitch.

Emma is headed for the U of I to pursue a degree in Agricultural Economics and then to become an attorney and perhaps run for office.
