A Newton man received a two-year prison term in Effingham County Circuit Court.

30-year-old Clayton Beavers pleaded guilty to resisting a peace officer. Counts of aggravated battery of a peace officer and attempting to disarm a peace officer were dismissed as part of the negotiated plea.

Beavers was given credit for 219 days already served awaiting disposition of his case. He will be on one-year mandatory supervised release once out of prison.

Beavers was arrested last November.
