Pedestrian Fatally Injured When Struck by Vehicle in Shelby County

An elderly pedestrian was fatally injured when struck by a vehicle in Shelby County.

The incident occurred at 5:13am Thursday on Illinois Route 16 at 2008 East Road. Shelby County Coroner Brian Green said the location is just east of the Lake Shelbyville dam, near the sale barn along Route 16. Illinois State Police report 84-year-old Sydney K. Manning entered the roadway while retrieving his mail and was struck by a car driven by 25-year-old Briar True of Neoga.

Manning was pronounced dead at the scene. True was not injured in the incident.

The crash remains under investigation.
