Effingham Park Board Commissioners Wednesday agreed on a budget for the coming fiscal year that projects to be slightly in the red.

Park District Director Jeff Althoff said the corporate fund projects to be about $40,000 in the black, but the recreation budget is estimated to be $60,000 in the red, what with cancellations of programs due to the pandemic and refunds for some of those programs. Althoff said this will be the first year since he has served as director that a deficit budget is projected. The Park District has enough carryover funding to cover the deficit.

The budget will be finalized at the Board's July meeting.

Althoff said baseball and softball teams are being organized in hopes that leagues can begin by the end of June. He also reported that Day Camp began this week, with kids being kept in groups of 10 or less.

As for the Workman Complex, Director Patti Smith said outdoor programs and one-on-one instruction have begun.
