New Cases Down; Deaths Up in Tuesday State COVID-19 Report

The Illinois Department of Public Health Tuesday reported 1,545 new cases of coronavirus disease in the state, lower than normal. However, 146 additional deaths were reported, much higher than in recent days.

95 of the deaths were from Cook County.

Tuesday's report, though, included two deaths reported Monday in Coles County. Meanwhile, Coles County Health Department Tuesday reported another death of a seventh county resident with COVID-19, bringing the total to seven. The person was a resident at Charleston Rehab and Healthcare. Meanwhile, Coles County Health Department was notified of three additional laboratory confirmed COVID-19 cases, bringing the confirmed case count for Coles County to 91. Five are currently hospitalized, 24 have recovered, seven are deceased, and 55 are recovering. To date, the total cases associated with Charleston Rehab and Healthcare is 49 confirmed cases.

Currently, IDPH is reporting 98,030 cases, including 4,379 deaths, in 100 Illinois counties. Within the 24 hours ending at 2pm Tuesday, laboratories have reported 18,443 specimens. The statewide seven-day rolling positivity rate is 14%.

The Shelby County Health Department Tuesday announced that two additional residents of Shelbyville Manor have tested positive for coronavirus disease. The individuals are a 62-year-old female and an 85-year-old female. Three residents and two staff members have now tested positive. One of the staff members is a Christian County resident and is not included in the Shelby County totals. Countywide, 15 residents of Shelby County have tested positive, one is deceased, nine have been released from isolation and five remain in isolation.
