More Than 4,000 Positive COVID-19 Cases Reported Tuesday, More Than 29,000 Tests

When sharing the daily COVID-19 numbers from the Illinois Department of Public Health, we have reminded you that the more tests conducted, the more positive cases result.

No more so than Tuesday.

4,014 new cases of coronavirus disease were reported, the largest one-day number yet. However, laboratories reported 29,266 specimens within the past 24 hours, also the largest one-day total so far.

There were 144 additional deaths reported. 93 of those deaths were from Cook County. There were 11 deaths reported in Lake County.

As far as area counties, a second death occurred in Coles County. The number of positive cases in Coles County is now at 62, after 16 more cases were identified Tuesday. due to the number of cases identified at Charleston Rehab and Healthcare. Four people are currently hospitalized. The totals for Coles County are now 22 recovered, two deceased, and 34 recovering. Two more positive cases were identified in Cumberland County, bringing their number to six. Shelby County is reporting its 11th positive case, a 25-year-old female who is self-isolating at her residence in Shelby County. The individual is asymptomatic and was tested as a precautionary measure as an employee of a congregate care facility in an adjoining county. Health Department officials are working to identify all close contacts with this individual. Currently, of the 10 other positive cases in Shelby County, one is deceased and nine have been released from isolation.
