Effingham County Chief Deputy Sheriff Paul Kuhns said work could begin by month's end on the second round of repairs on the elevator in the Effingham County Office Building. The building is located at 4th and Jefferson, west across from the Courthouse Museum.

Work was done earlier this year to replace much of the elevator's power system, but not the passenger car. The elevator has broken down on occasion in recent years after operating on an aging mechanical system.

Kuhns said the contractor expects the work will take a few weeks to complete. As in the previous repair scenario, County officials based in the Office Building will offer service on the main floor to those unable to use the stairs.
