Altamont city council have awarded a street construction project on the city's south end.

Carriage Lane will be paved from the Jack Flash location under construction to Carriage House Event Center. J.B. Esker and Sons was awarded the bid of $78,855 including some drainage work. The Council considered both asphalt and concrete surfaces for the roadway before deciding on the concrete option. The project area is part of a Business District and funds generated from the district will be used to pay for the work.

Council members also approved a variance allowing more signage than is normally permitted for the Jack Flash location. There are plans to open the business in early to mid-May.

Altamont council members also approved the annual agreement with Effingham County Health Department for mosquito larvaciding abatement work. The fee is $845.
