The first case of laboratory confirmed COVID-19 in Clay County was announced late Monday afternoon.

Clay County Hospital in Flora and the Clay County Health Department made the announcement.

Notification was received of a Clay County resident who tested positive. The person is a woman in her 20s, who is reported to be doing well and is at home in isolation.

The individual reported no known exposure to the novel coronavirus. Authorities say that indicates that COVID-19 is likely circulating in the Clay County community.

The individual is not allowed to leave home until she is well and is no longer believed to be able to transmit the disease. No additional information will be released about the woman due to privacy issues.

Clay County was the last area county to report a positive COVID-19 case.
