Local Man Arrested on Counts of Child Pornography, Criminal Sexual Assault

A local man is in custody on counts of criminal sexual assault as well as possession or production of child pornography.

22-year-old Jacob D. Fairbanks of Effingham was arrested on the counts Monday. Effingham City Police Chief Jason McFarland said a person contacted police and turned over a computer. The person told police that the computer contained files of Fairbanks and a female juvenile engaged in sexual activity.

McFarland said police conducted a forensic analysis and found files that support the charges. The incidents are alleged to have occurred in mid-2019.

Fairbanks is due in court Wednesday morning for his initial hearing on the charges.
