Cowden-Herrick school board members have voted to issue bonds to finance electrical upgrades at two district buildings.

The bonds total $1,332,500. The electrical upgrades are planned at the high school building in Cowden and the grade school building in Herrick. The upgrades will facilitate the installation of air-conditioning in each building.

Retired Cowden-Herrick superintendent Gary Cadwell provided an update on the Cowden-Herrick Educational Foundation, a non-profit corporation.

Board members also approved the calendar for the coming school year, beginning with a Teacher Institute on August 17 and the first student attendance day on August 18. Also approved was award of a bid to Effingham Asphalt to asphalt the parking lots at the Cowden campus; award of a mowing bid to Doty and Sons Mowing; and a senior class trip to Wisconsin Dells along with a Performance Club to Holiday World and the Science Club trip to Six Flags.

Cowden-Herrick board members also approved a memorandum of understanding regarding services of a speech pathologist, and then employed Erin Koester for the position. The Board also accepted resignations from Donovan Riley and Kimberlyn Youhas as PE teachers and from Amber Skowronski as junior high Cheer coach.
