Currey Murder Case in Coles County Court

The murder case of Isaac Currey was in Coles County Circuit Court on Thursday.

The 21-year-old Currey is charged in the death of his infant son at their home in Lerna in December. The four-month-old was found unresponsive after emergency personnel were called to the home.

At a previous court hearing, prosecutors in the case asked that Currey be evaluated as to his fitness to stand trial. Defense attorneys agreed and Currey was directed to be evaluated by psychologist Dr. Jerry Boyd. 

At Thursday's hearing, it was noted a letter from Dr. Boyd was on file. The presiding judge will now review the letter and then rule as to whether Currey is fit. 

The case is next due in court on April 23. Currey is under $500,000 bond.
