Effingham County Clerk Kerry Hirtzel has issued guidelines for Tuesday's primary election.

Here's the information from the County Clerk's office:

Governor Pritzker has not extended any election deadlines for the Tuesday, March 17th General Primary Election in Illinois.

Effingham County Elections timeframes:

Election Day – March 17, 2020 – voting in the precincts from 6:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.

Vote By Mail – the deadline for the County Clerk’s office to send a ballot was Thursday, March 12, 2020 at 4:00 p.m.

A voter may come in and pick up a Vote By Mail ballot for themselves and return it by mail. The ballot has to be postmarked by midnight March 17, 2020 Election Day.

Voters are asked to call 217-342-6535 for any questions they may have.

COVID19 Actions:

For the March 17, 2020 General Primary Election each polling place in Effingham County will be equipped with sanitizing wipes and disinfectant spray. These supplies have been provided by the Effingham County Health Department.

Voters will find instructions and advice to follow to help prevent the spread of any germs.

Election Judges will be instructed to keep polling places clean and disinfected.

One important action a voter can do is to take along their own black ballpoint pen to mark their ballot.

A pen will be provided if you do not provide your own. If you require hand sanitizer please bring your own as the supply did not allow for Effingham County to have it available.

The virus is new, the message is the same   ---  CLEAN, COVER, CONTAIN.

A reminder we will have primary election returns Tuesday night on 979XFM and www.979xfm.com and on our website.
