Effingham Park Board members Wednesday were updated on improvements to the baseball diamond at Evergreen Hollow Park.

Park District Director Jeff Althoff said new foul poles are in place and the outfield fence is nearing completion. The dimensions of the fence have been moved in. The fence will be green with yellow painted along the top. A new scoreboard has been ordered for the diamond.

Althoff also reported that the Effingham and St. Anthony high school baseball teams plan to trade diamonds each year. When both diamonds have been available in the past, Effingham usually played at Paul Smith Field at Community Park and St. Anthony played at Evergreen Hollow. This season, Effingham is going to play at Evergreen Hollow while St. Anthony will play at Paul Smith Field.

Representatives of Rink Management reported to the Board that enrollment and program participation numbers at Workman Sports and Wellness Complex were up from the previous month.

Althoff reported that Verizon wants to lease tower space on property north of the Workman Complex near the interstate right-of-way. He said they are still in negotiations.
