A Stewardson-Strasburg High School student is hospitalized in Springfield following a Tuesday morning crash.

Accident

Sixteen-year-old Colin Kinkelaar was headed to school when the crash happened just before 8am.

The Shelby County Sheriff's Department reports Kinkelaar was traveling on the roadway straight west of the high school when his car ran off the roadway to the right and then hit a guardrail head-on. The youth was first taken to Shelby Memorial Hospital in Shelbyville and stabilized, then was transferred onto HSHS St. John's Hospital in Springfield, where he is still a patient.

Colin is the son of Jeremy and Kelly Kinkelaar and is the grandson of Jean and Janice Kinkelaar of Effingham and Ed and Jill Friese of Mode. He played for Windsor/Stew-Stras in last week's National Trail Conference boys basketball tournament.
