The Effingham City Zoning Board of Appeals Tuesday granted a variance in setbacks for a property on the northwest side of town.

Brent and Kera Emmerich earlier received a variance in both height and square footage for a building they'd like to build by their house along Woodbird Drive.

City Planner Greg Koester said the Emmerichs began to develop the property once the variance was granted, and found they'd like even more square footage for the building and sought the variance granted Tuesday. The new variance provides for up to 1,750 square feet of space.
