(KENNY CATHEY)

A Casey man has been sentenced to seven years in prison after pleading guilty to arson.

27-year-old Kenny Cathey entered the guilty plea in November. As part of his negotiated plea, both parties agreed to a 10-year cap on the possible sentence.

Cathey was charged in connection with a June 10 incident at a residence in the 200 block of East St. Louis Avenue in Effingham. Authorities were called to the property after they were contacted about an explosion in the garage at the residence. A person was found lying on the ground near the garage who was found to be Cathey.

Once out of prison, Cathey will serve two years' mandatory supervised release. He must pay $2,000 in restitution. Cathey was given credit for serving 214 days in jail while awaiting the disposition of his case.
