The case of Shelby County murder suspect Deven Barger was the subject of a court hearing Monday.

(BARGER)

The 25-year-old Barger is charged with killing his pregnant girlfriend, Samantha Cushing, by shooting her at a house in Shelbyville last July with the incident also resulting in the death of the unborn child Cushing was carrying. Following the shooting, Barger led authorities on a chase to Taylorville where he surrendered. Barger's three-year-old daughter was with him during the pursuit, a matter authorities were aware of and governed how the chase was conducted.

The Monday hearing basically dealt with procedural matters. Both sides are still gathering potential evidence.

Barger is being by the Illinois Department of Corrections until the case goes to trial.

Judge Amanda Ade-Harlow Monday scheduled another pre-trial hearing for the morning of March 4. No trial date has been set.

Barger is being held under $5 million bond.
