There was plenty on the plate this week for the Effingham City Plan Commission.

The Commission approved a site plan for Cash Equipment Sales and Rentals. The business is now located at 615 East Rickelman Avenue, but is wanting to develop a location along the north side of Pike Avenue in the Effingham Business Park.

The development is proposed to include a 4,800 square foot office facility and an adjoining 6,400 square foot shop area.

Three public hearings were a part of the meeting.

The Commission unananimously recommended approval of a rezoning of property west of 3601 South Banker Street along Thies Avenue from non-urban to M-1 Light Industrial District. Boos President Joe Emmerich's request for the rezoning said it would aid in any expansion of John Boos and Company. The plant is located along Thies Avenue.

The Commission also unanimously recommended approval of the vacation of a portion of an unnamed street in the first addition to Thies Commercial Subdivision. The strip of land runs north and south along the back of the Boos property

The Commission unanimously recommended denial of the rezoning of property at 302 High Street. A company with a location on a nearby existing tower had sought a site for a new tower.

Each of the three public hearing items now go to the Effingham City Council for a final decision.

The Commission also recommended Council approval of two plats. One is the second addition to Thies Commercial Subdivision, related to the John Boos expansion project.

The other plat is for the fifth addition to American Way Industrial Park. It's a 6.5 acre parcel along Pike Avenue between Heartland Boulevard and the interstate.
