Fire Destroys Dale Nelson Trucking Near Altamont

Fire destroyed the home of Dale Nelson Trucking, located south and east of Altamont, Wednesday afternoon.

Altamont firefighters were notified just before 3pm of the fire. Altamont Fire Chief Jon Becker said Nelson was working in the shop with a grinder when he said an explosion occurred, knocking him backward. Nelson told authorities heat and fire built up quickly, but he was able to make it out of the shop. Nelson did suffer some burn injuries.

Becker said only one wall of the building remained standing. Also lost in the fire was Nelson's two-wheel-drive pulling truck.

Firefighters from Shumway, St. Elmo and Edgewood assisted Altamont firefighters in battling the fire, and Abbott EMS was on scene. Fire companies were at the scene about 2-1/2 hours.
