An Effingham County Waste Transfer semi-trailer caught fire Monday morning when traveling down I-57 near the Marion-Jefferson County Line.

At 8:29am a bearing in the rear wheels of the trailer overheated and set the tires on fire. Kell Firemen were able to confine the fire to the tires. However, the fire had heated up the trash, which was then watered down to make sure it didn’t catch fire.

Damage was estimated to be $5,000.  Another trailer was sent to the scene to reload the waste to continue its trip to the landfill.
