Preliminary investigative details indicate a semi driven by Hassan A. Habbad, 33, Eagan, MN was traveling westbound on I-70 near mile post 87 in Effingham County. Habbad was attempting to pull onto the shoulder of the National Trail rest area entrance ramp just before midnight Monday night and misjudged the location of the ramp. He swerved off of the roadway to the right and struck a semi parked on the ramp shoulder operated by Braich G. Singh, 28, Brampton, ON causing that semi to overturn. Habbad’s semi came to a resting point on the ramp to the rest area.

Singh was injured and taken to HSHS St. Anthony’s Memorial Hospital for treatment.

Habbad was charged with Improper Lane Usage.
