Teutopolis school board members purchased a new school bus at this week's meeting. The bus will be equipped with seat belts.

The Board has been discussing during recent meetings whether to try a bus with belts. The subject has been discussed at the state level for some time, too, including whether belts on buses should be mandated by law. The vote this week will give the District the opportunity to measure the effectiveness of the belts. The bus from Midwest Transit of Kankaee will cost $94,263 including trade-in of an old bus.

Teutopolis board members re-approved a waiver application allowing the District to charge less than 100% of the per capita tuition charge for children of district employees who don't live in the Teutopolis district. It's a recruitment and retention tool to make the district more attractive to teachers who live outside the district.

The Board abated its Working Cash Fund, allowing the transfer of $700,000 from the fund to the Capital Projects Fund to help pay for the Phase II renovation work at Teutopolis High School. Board members also accepted the resignation of Michael Vogt as boys tennis head coach.
