Shelby County board members have voted against moving their meetings to the evening hours.

A proposal considered at this week's meeting was to move the meetings from the second Wednesday of the month at 9am to the second Thursday of the month at 6pm. Proponents of the change said it would allow the public to attend meetings without having to take off from work, and to consider running for the Board themselves.

A survey found that only three counties in the region still meet in the morning.

Six members voted in favor of making the change, but 12 voted against.

The Shelby board confirmed Chairman David Cruitt's appointment of Robert Orman to the Board for District 7. The district includes all or parts of Ash Grove, Big Spring and Sigel townships.

Orman, a rural Windsor resident, succeeds Rob Behl, who resigned after many years on the Board.
