Clay County board members this week discussed the budget for the fiscal year that begins December 1.

The proposed budget totals just over 3% more than the current year's measure. A vote on the budget will take place at the Board's November meeting.

The Board renewed cyber liability coverage, as well as property/casualty and workers compensation insurance coverage. Also approved was borrowing $95,000 from the capital expenditure account to pay pension liability. The Board also approved an audit contract with Kemper CPA Group, and approved a preliminary engineering agreement for the Edgington Bridge in Xenia Township.

Board members also agreed to seek a five-year extension of a special tax for highway purposes. The tax has been on the books for more than 50 years, and the revenue helps pay for road maintenance materials. It will appear on the March 2020 election ballot.
