Fayette County Sheriff Chris Smith said his office received a call at 3:18am from a residence in rural Shobonier. The caller stated that someone had showed up at his house covered in blood and stated he had been shot. Deputies responded and found a male subject who had been shot four times. The man was taken to Fayette County Hospital in Vandalia and was later transported to a Springfield hospital.

McCammack was the subject of a search until he was taken into custody northwest of Shobonier at 8:50am without incident.

Smith has asked that Illinois State Police Zone 7 Investigations handle the case for the sheriff's department. He also thanked all of the agencies that assisted in McCammack's apprehension.
