City Council Approves Infrastructure Projects

Effingham City Council members Tuesday approved a series of infrastructure projects.

The Council accepted a proposal for reconstruction of the parking lot at the public properties building on East Jefferson. John L. Lewis Construction is the low bidder at just over $80,000.

Council members also approved a professional services agreement with Farnsworth Group for design of water main replacement work along South Lakewood Drive and Rollin Hills Boulevard in Rollin Hills Subdivision. The work will cost just over $14,000.

Also approved was reconstruction work on Second Street from Fayette Avenue, south to National Avenue. Kinney Contractors of Raymond was the low bidder at just over $375,000.

Council members issued a liquor license to Ole Liquor Cabinet on South Banker Street at the site of the former Joe's Liquor Cabinet; approved the rezoning of 408 West Temple Avenue from single-family residential to multiple-dwelling district; and appointed Kim Jansen of Effingham Performance Center to fill a vacancy on the Tourism Advisory Board.

The Council also discussed the logistics of annexing land that would connect the Central Redevelopment and South Central Industrial tax Increment Financing Districts, and discussed options for the route for the Halloween Parade on Sunday, October 27 with a final decision on the route to come soon.
