Effingham Park Board members heard about improvements to Evergreen Hollow Park at this month's meeting.

Park District Director Jeff Althoff said work is progressing on the baseball diamond, as crews are working to eliminate drainage problems in the outfield. The work will also involve moving in the centerfield fence, where balls are often affected by windy conditions, and replacing the fencing. Dirt work is already underway.

Crews have also reseeded the area around Harmony Playground. It's the third time, as the heavy rainfall this year has washed away the seed the first two times.

Board members heard that soccer enrollment is down a little this fall, while flag football turnout is about the same as usual.

The report from the Workman Sports and Wellness Complex indicates a need for coaches for the Junior NBA Program. The start of the program has been delayed while coaches are being sought. Please contact the Workman Complex if you'd like to help.

Enrollment at the Workman is about the same, with Silver Sneakers enrollment increased.

Following a closed session, Park Board members decided to ask Recreation Director Hilary Kopplin to also take on athletic director duties formerly handled by Steve Boswell when he worked for the district. Althoff said the move will help head off costs anticipated when the state's minimum wage begins to increase.
