A woman who dragged a Fayette County sheriff's deputy with her vehicle has been sentenced to prison.

20-year-old Adriana Brown of Springfield Thursday was sentenced to six years in prison for aggravated battery to a peace officer.

The charge stemmed from an incident along US Route 51 just south of US Route 40 in Vandalia in April of 2018. Fayette County Sheriff's Deputy Ronnie Stevens had stopped a vehicle and observed what he believed to be criminal activity. Brown, the driver, attempted to flee the scene and caused Stevens to become entangled in the vehicle. Stevens was dragged for an undetermined distance and then fell out of the vehicle. He was treated at a St. Louis hospital for injuries he incurred.

The prosecution of Brown's case was delayed when she was being examined as to her fitness to stand trial.
