Tuesday was the first day for candidates in the 2020 primary election to begin circulating their nominating petitions. The primary will be held on March 17.

Countywide offices to be filled in 2020 are Circuit Clerk, County Coroner and State's Attorney. Those seats are now held by John Niemerg, Kim Rhodes and Bryan Kibler, all Republicans.

Five seats on the Effingham County Board are to be filled, as well. Those seats are in Districts A, E, F, H, and I. Those seats are now held by Lloyd Foster, John Perry, Jeff Simpson, Rob Arnold and Joe Thoele, all Republicans.

Petitions may be circulated to gain the required number of signatures to file as a candidate. The filing period will run from Monday, November 25 to Monday, December 2.

The same rules apply to the races in area counties.
